The Struggle within Huckelberry Finn Mark Twainââ¬â¢s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel about a boyââ¬â¢s struggle with his inner conscience in the Missouri of the 1800ââ¬â¢s. Huckleberry Finn spends most of his time floating down the Mississippi River on a raft with a runaway slave named Jim. The novel illustrates Huckââ¬â¢s battle with his conscience over slavery, education, and societyââ¬â¢s beliefs. Huck is a rebellious young boy who finds himself taking some responsibility and maturing throughout the novel. Although Mark Twain wrote Huckleberry Finn twenty years after the Civil War, America was still struggling with racism and the aftereffects of slavery; especially the South. Jim is a runaway slave and the companion of Huck Finn as they both travel down the river. According to the law, Jim is Miss Watsonââ¬â¢s property, but according to Huckââ¬â¢s logic and fairness it seems ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠to help Jim. As Huck spends more time with Jim he stats seeing him as a friend instead of a slave or a fugitive on the run. An example of this is when Huck encounters a group of slave hunters and makes up a story in order to lure them away from Jim. But Jim remains at the mercy of every character in the novel, including Huck, as the letter that Huck nearly sent to Miss Watson shows the inner conflict that he is struggling with. Nonetheless Jim remains a loyal friend and he is actually the only adult who provides a positive example for Huck to follow. Huckleberry Finn has morally educated himself throughout the novel rather than intellectually. Most of the novel illustrates the maturation and development of Huck. Death Penalty Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words - 5
Death Penalty - Essay Example In the past the methods of execution were aimed at causing the maximum suffering to the condemned person. This has been replaced by the functional methods adopted by most of the modern governments. The new approach emphasises the killing of the convicted person and not upon the suffering that results from the punishment(Bannister, 2008, p. 167). This indicates a more humane approach to the killing of convicted persons. However, killing a convict is fundamentally wrong. Punishments serve the important function of averting the dissolution that is noticed in the moral and physical worlds. These punishments come to the notice of the public and remain fixed in their mind. Moral speeches, great truths, moving speeches and strong words cannot achieve what punishment does. In order to prevent violation of the law in the long term, it is essential to have a system of strong punishments(Beccaria, 2011, p. 9). However, the death penalty fails to achieve these objectives. The deterrent effect of such punishment is no longer accepted in the world. When people have to live independently and in isolation, they are placed in a continuous state of war. The freedom enjoyed by such people is always in danger of being destroyed by others. This forces people to form societies that are governed by laws. These laws ensure that the rights of the people are not harmed. In order to live in a society that is subject to the rule of law, people have to forego a portion of their liberty. It is this sacrifice that provides people with a safe and peaceful life(Beccaria, 2011, p. 9). In this manner, a depository of surrendered sacrifices is created. The total of the individual liberties constitutes the sovereignty of a country. Something more is required; namely, a defence of individual liberties against the attempts of others to take undue advantage. As such, people tend to retrieve their surrendered liberties. At the same time, individuals attempt to appropriate what belongs to

Marketing Strategy for Hyatt Regency Birmingham Research Paper
Marketing Strategy for Hyatt Regency Birmingham - Research Paper Example There is always a need to understand customers, but luxury hotels need to adapt their brand strategy in order to attract these more cost-conscious customers and look at ââ¬Å"establishing ways of making the same brand more accessibleâ⬠(Brownsell, 2009). Strategic direction is a challenge faced by all organizations whether there is a recession or not, especially when there exist opportunities or to help overcome major problems (Johnson, 2009: 2).à ââ¬Å"Uncertainty is inherent in strategy because nobody can be sure about the future.â⬠(Johnson, 2009: 6) But a strategic direction helps to focus on a course of action and follow an integrated approach based on clear objectives and informed knowledge of the operating environment. This, of course, can affect the organizationââ¬â¢s operational decisions, involve a reconsideration of the relationships and networks, and can be complex reorientation requiring considerable change.à Strategic directions at a competitive or bu siness level deal with issues of pricing, competitive advantage, competition, collaboration, game theory etc. Innovation or differentiation, for example, can be done through bettering the quality or an implementing a distinctive distribution channel.à Strategic directions at a corporate level deal with market penetration, consolidation, product development, market development, diversification etc. This includes cost leadership, differentiation, and specialization based on Porterââ¬â¢s generic strategies. Judging Means Forming An Opinion Philosophy Essay
Judging Means Forming An Opinion Philosophy Essay Judging means forming an opinion or conclusion about the subject it self, in this case it s a person that were judging. This action requiers a lot of responsibility, it takes a short time to judges a person, but it needs quite long time to make it right. When it comes to the first judgment of a persons character, many people the appearance as their criterian. However, in my point of view, this is not a wise to make the real judgment of a person. Ussualy people conclude poeple so fast becuase they are looking from the outside. You know what the said dont judge the books by its cover. Meaning that by looking at a book you think it is bad when you didnt even read the prologue yet or even the back of the book. This quote tell you to judge people from their personality, just like judging a book people wont read if the cover page is ugly and that is the mistakes that they are making. The point is judging people from their first imperssion is not wrong, but it ussually does, why dont you g ive him or her a chance. Taking a conclusion of someone may set your mind forever about that person and you wont know tha truth about that person unless you giver him or her a chance and you will change your mind either making it better or worse. This are some reasons why you shouldnt judge people on their first impression;Your opinion might be wrong. As i said before you may miss judge them. judging people before you know them starts nothing but drama. The bible it self said that Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment from John 7:24. Assuming is technically different from knowing. You never know one day that person may be the one you have to rely on! They might change over time. People in this life always changes either better or worse. eople act different from others and some people have their own kind of way of gestures. Things are not always how they seem, or how we think we see them. It is always a good policy to not only give the benefit of the doubt, but to get all the facts before we rush to judgment about people and situations. Another good policy is to remember that everything is not about us. Another persons attitude, body language, comments, beliefs, etc may not have anything at all to do with us personally; and may have absolutely everything to do with them and what is going on in their own life. Time is needed to came up with a precise conclusion , People act different from others and some people have their own kind of way of gestures. Not everyone is born the same, that is why it makes every one unique in their own way. First impressions arent a good thing and it shouldnt be done. You have to get to know the person first before you judge them! Once you get to know the person, then you can judge them by who they are. It takes more time and effort to really get to know a person before judging them.Ã Im not sure if we can totally override our preconceptions, but I think we must try to quiet them while we delve deeper.Ã The color of a persons skin shouldnt matter nor should their age, sex, weight, or what clothes they wear.Ã There are many interesting, smart, and valuable people that dont fit the mold that our society has created.Ã It is up to us to decide how we will judge people. Dont be Mr. I know every things and asume that you are always right. There is only on e lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:12. You may judges others un-fairly just to justify you own ego. Your ego may affects how you judges others. Considering that everyone can have a bad day, people ussualy leting themself judge beyond that. You may miss the bigest part if you take point to early. You couldnt realy know what is insideem. Above all do we realy need to judge people ? many people waste their time in jugding people. we spend a lot of time judging people then we are wasting the time we have that we could be enjoying them, or loving them. They dont even think about them self. I am not saying that is wrong to judge others but at least you should concertrate on your self rather than keep comment on someone else. It is human nature to judge others based upon initial impressions. We may pretend that it is otherwise, however, we all form first impressions which are difficult to undo in our minds. We may train ourselves to open our minds and not allow our first impressions to close doors; however it remains in our nature to judge. If we use our intellect rather than our emotional response we will remain open too learning about people despite our first impressions, even find that we were mistaken in our initial judgments. There are many things about a person that we judge based upon our life experiences that have no relevance to theirs, this often leads to mistakes. There is also the issue of what is within the control of the person that we are meeting for the first time and what is outside of their control. Leaping to judgment based upon our own experiences and expectations can only lead too lost opportunities that enrich our lives. In short its better if we don not judge people, but if it is necessary dont judge them in their first impression.

Type 2 Diabetes :: essays research papers
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic illness that is a result of the bodyââ¬â¢s insulin not functioning correctly. It was formerly called adult-onset or insulin-dependent. It is also the most common kind of diabetes accounting for about 90 percent of all diabetes cases. Type 2 diabetes can also cause obesity and high cholesterol. About 6 percent of the population suffers from diabetes while about one-third of those who do have it, do not know about it. Insulin is a chemical that is released by the body to control blood sugar levels. It allows glucose to enter cells where it is used for daily functions. When blood glucose cannot be absorbed into cells, the energy cannot be expended and is then expelled through the kidneys. It starts as some of the bodyââ¬â¢s cells develop a resistance to insulin. This causes the liver to function without control, so it continues to release glucose. Without the cells picking up glucose high levels of glucose in the blood persist, which is a condition called hyperglycemia. à à à à à Some symptoms are excessive thirst, urinating frequently, and hunger. Fatigue can also be a sign of diabetes. Diabetic ketonacidoses can also occur in people with type 2 diabetes. This is when the cells do not get enough glucose and begin to burn fat. When the cells burn fat for energy it results in the release of waste products, know as ketones. High levels of ketones in the body can produce large amounts of acid, and if not tended to, will cause a person to go into a coma or can possibly be fatal. Diabetes is usually diagnosed by testing blood glucose levels. These tests tell doctors if the body is using insulin correctly by detecting how much glucose stays in the blood stream. Most doctors recommend daily exercise and strict diets to treat type 2 diabetes.

Meeting an old friend
A man is a Social Animal involved in the intricacies of every social behavior he is expected to involve in. The richness of his social behavior lies in his varied actions which he is expected to behave in the Society-among his family, peers, neighbors, and most sensuous of all friendship. But his mind is a very complex part of the body, which keeps involving the man into varied activities, 24 hours a day. In this hush and bush of your daily chores, one day you come across a person while you are in relax mood and enjoying the Exhibition in a Grand Hall at Park Avenue. He comes in front of you and suddenly speaks in a louder but a very friendly tone, hi, How are you? And you keep on looking at him. This gaze clearly states that you have been engaged so much in your personal affairs that you not only forgot him but also his name, and are now trying to recollect his name. He asked you, ââ¬Å"How are you? And you replied decently, I am very well, fine, Thank You. And then he will say, ââ¬Å"I was longing to meet you but could not get time,â⬠and you will reply ââ¬Å"Oh! how sweet of you, even I was longing to meet you but I got so involved in the pursuit of my career that I did not get time to meet you. It was so hectic in the office that I did not have a single minute to even breatheâ⬠. This dialogue dictates your etiquette, though you have forgotten the name of your friend with whom you have spend so precious moments of your life, still you are not trying to show that you have forgotten him. He is making out that you have forgotten him and he will say, ââ¬Å"Hey! I think you have forgotten me, and why not, we are meeting after such a long time, so it is so natural that you may forget me.â⬠I only remembered that we have studied together in school. He started talking of good old school days, when we enjoy a lot, have all the fun, played pranks on teachers and the crushes we had on the beautiful girls in our school and then he involves you so much in conversation that you forgot you donââ¬â¢t remember his name. All of a sudden from my mouth it comes out,à ââ¬Å"Rick.â⬠He stops laughing and began to stare at me. I smelled that something was wrong with the name. He in a very low voice says, ââ¬Å"Hello, I am David, not Rick.â⬠, then only the name strikes in my memory andà I start cursing myself, that he remembered my name and every little things about mine, whereas I completely forgot his name and on the top of it dared not accept the failure to recall his name. I wants to apologize but the words stopped flowing from mouth and I became speechless. He understands the position and to ease the situation, he starts laughing. I asks for his apology and he accepted to give on one condition that in future I would be honest while portraying my feelings. No doubt man feels very embarrassed if he forgets his old time friend but it is also true that with time generally memory fades in many human beings. This behavior in humans is explained by Rethinking Interference theory of G. E. Mueller and Pilzecker who claims that man has to involve in number of activities and his brain is thinking all the time.à With the passing time new experiences enter into the memory the older begin to erase because the process, which is involved in storing new memories generally disrupts the old consolidation processes, which could have traced the events of our lives remained in our memory storage. Essay on John Singletons Boyz in the Hood - 1263 Words
Boyz in the Hood is a statement of how urban youth have been passed a legacy of tragic indifference, and the writer has shown that it is an almost inescapable fate for those born into racism and poverty to repeat the patterns they wish to escape. The movieââ¬â¢s characters are clear representations of how the system fails young black youth in the United States, and the difference one mentor can make for these kids. During segregation young black children became targets for white brutality. This movie reflects what the European mentality and what it has done to the African American culture. On the one hand, the Civil Rights era officially ended inequality of opportunity. It officially ended de jure legal inequality, so it was no longer legal for employers, for landlords, or for any public institution or accommodations to discriminate based on race. At the same time, those civil rights triumphs did nothing to address the underlying economic and social inequalities that had already been in place because of hundreds of years of inequality.â⬠(Conley pp 1). Thousands of kids die every years from gang on gang violence, damaging all chances of them escaping the ghetto and making something of themselves.
